A wonderful post Gem, and such beautiful photos ❤️ I particularly love the little Blue Tit 😍

We've been noticing such a change in the bird song here too, with Great Tits incredibly vocal, which has brought such joy to our days. A Blackbird's started singing its beautiful melody over the past two afternoons too, joined by a Song Thrush somewhere nearby. It really does feel like life is stirring, and everything's beginning to wake from its winter slumber 🌱

Such a lovely time of year in our part of the country! I often wish I was closer to the coast, but it feels nicely mild without a cold sea breeze to contend with.

Seen a few Blackbirds tootling about, some finches feeding of my neighbours table. Time for a stroll down to my local wetland, most years it boasts a small herronry! Not bad for a small urban wetland!

I love the word ‘heronry’ - apparently the largest one in the UK is near me so I’ll have to check it out! I don’t think I’ve ever seen one.

Great photos - the birds are sooo loud at the moment it's quite wonderful, whenever I record my voiceovers they seem to manage to get in on the background. It makes the constant rain seem a little shinnier when it comes with such shimmering calls

Yes, I have Greenfinches in the background of my online meetings sometimes, trilling away - it’s lovely!

I read with interest and had a little chuckle when I read your bit about Song Thrush mimicry.

Watched some fabulous snow buntings on the Norfolk coast

One of my many many favourites - such sweet expressions! Did they let you get close? I have only seen one and it sat about 2m away from me quite happily.

They kept coming to us Gem.. A similar distance to your experience.

Northern Cardinals are singing in full force now. Time to get frisky. Also loving seeing the ducks wherever the rivers aren’t frozen over. More than thirty Canvasbacks last week 😍

Lovely post Gem. Send me a Fieldfare whydontcha!

Managed to see a common loon in the middle of a city lake, and plenty of waders. It’s been a great start to the year, winter visitors are plentiful

A city loon? That’s a great spot at any time of year!
